The name “Ghodepani” originates from the historical use of the area by traders and herders. Horses (“Ghode” in Nepali) would carry water to the region, and yak herders would rely on the same water sources, giving the location its name. Today, it serves as a gateway to one of Nepal’s most beloved trekking routes, offering both natural beauty and cultural depth.

The Ghodepani Poon Hill Trek is one of Nepal’s most popular short treks, known for its breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. This trek provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in local Gurung and Magar cultures, traversing picturesque villages, lush rhododendron forests, and serene Buddhist shrines.

The trek’s highlight is the sunrise view from Poon Hill (3,210 m / 10,531 ft), offering a panoramic 360-degree vista of the Himalayan peaks. Notable mountains visible from this point include Annapurna I (8,091 m / 26,545 ft), Machhapuchhre (6,993 m / 22,943 ft), and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m / 26,795 ft). The golden hues of the rising sun against these snow-capped peaks create an unforgettable spectacle, making it a haven for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.
